Why have a Retreat?

This is about meeting up with other women who work on the water.

This is about having the opportunity to have discussions and 'talk story' with women you might not otherwise meet.

This is about having an informal and relaxed environment to get to the nitty gritty with each other about challenges we've faced and successes we're proud of.

This is about building community.

Who is this Megan chick?

She's the host!

Aloha!  I'm Megan and I grew up in Hilo, Hawaii where I still live.  After graduating from Hilo High School I attended the Maine Maritime Academy and began my career at sea in 2005.  I've been on the water in some way shape or form every since.  I'm currently working shoreside as Director of Marine Operations.  I encourage all women to attend - if you’ve gone shoreside there is space for you here! The header above is a link where you can go to a full page about the host :)

Why am I doing this?

I believe in community and, I like to have fun!  Have you ever just wanted to 'talk out a problem' you were having in the industry and drawn a blank on who to call?  I have.  Have you ever just felt curious about other ladies in the industry?  I have!  I'd like to chat out challenges I'm facing.  I'd like to have fun with like minded women.  I'd like to build a community!

There will never be a 'good time' to host a meetup.  There will never be a way to host a meetup without kinks that need to get worked out and improvements for the next one however; there is never a better time to start than now.  Sometimes you just have to make shit happen!

Why Fall City, WA and Where are we staying?

The owners of the Fall City Farm generously donate the space to us for the weekend!!!!!

There are two buildings The Lodge & The Bunkhouse.

We’ve hosted She Sails all four years and it’s the PERFECT space. We are so dang lucky to be gifted our stay. The Lodge has everything we need to be comfortable while being a high tech facility enabling lots of audio visual capabilities.

We'll be staying at The Bunkhouse which is right next door to the Lodge.  It's a beautiful home with lots of space for us all! Each person will have a room with a queen size bed and and ensuite bathroom.

What is included in the cost?

Included in the cost of the event is a single room, meals, a meeting space, plus some fun things to occupy our time!.

...and like...what are we doing?!

You can certainly hop over to The Itinerary page to check out the pace of the weekend and you can head to The Workshops page to see what our discussions will be about but, in a nutshell, we'll have some presentations, some round table discussions, some more involved workshops...and well duh....we'll be having fun! The goal is to build connections and I feel confident saying we have a 100% success rate.

Is my ticket refundable?

Not this year - sorry! Honestly, I’ve tried to provide maximum flexibility every year and it’s really tough on my end with planning. My request this year is that you find a lady mariner to attend in your place and we transfer the ticket. If you absolutely get into a bind and you’re going under because you bought a ticket you can’t afford please reach out to you - I won’t leave you hanging but, I’d appreciate you respecting it’s tough to budget with a fluctuating head count!

Why aren’t you using Eventbrite this year?

In all past years I’ve used Eventbrite to try to keep people feel confident about the legitimacy of their ticket. The problem is that Eventbrite doesn’t cash out until a few days after the event and, to be honest, I don’t have that sailor cash anymore ;) I’ll be real with you - it sucked to front all the money! This way, I’ll be accumulating the funds so that we have a real time operating budget.

Do I make a profit on She Sails?

Hell No. Not one single year. I put every single cent into the retreat. I also pay for my own airfare and rental car out of pocket. The more people who attend - the bigger our budget needs to be and also - the more people who attend the better we can make it!
